The relationship between PCBA and ocean shipping

2021-10-18

There is a shortage of PCBA boards in the global market, leading to a trend of higher costs.

When the volume of the goods is large or the packaging requirements are strict, the customer usually chooses to ship by sea. At the same time, it also drives the production of a lot of packaging consumables. Due to the continuous increase in shipping costs, in order to reduce the increased cost of transportation, customers choose to streamline packaging to achieve the purpose of reducing the overall cost of PCBA boards. There is also a phenomenon that the transportation cycle is particularly long, and the goods can't reach the destination on time. So the customer cannot assemble or use the product normally. As a result, products are forced to delay the listing or appear in short supply.

In order to avoid this situation, some customers choose to ship by air. However, the cost of air freight far exceeds that of sea freight. In order to reduce costs, customers try to replace some expensive components with cheaper components with the same function. Replacing components may result in a reduction in the useful life of the product.

Take the PCBA that our company has done as an example, most of the PCBAs used in large equipment control systems need to be overloaded with high power, in addition to the assembled components, it is also necessary to increase the heat sink. So the weight of each PCBA will increase accordingly. As the weight increases, the shipping fee also increases.
